Responding to an invitation from Monmouth Baptist Church, OM Lifehope sent a team to work in the picturesque border town of Monmouth in 2006. This prosperous community of l0,000 boasts a low crime rate and a high standard of living, yet locals who appear to have everything, still need to know life and hope in Jesus.
The Monmouth team is developing ministries and reinforcing existing ones in the community so everyone will have a chance to know Jesus personally.
J-Zone is the kid’s club that the team helped develop. This club was set up with the help of Kids ‘n’ Things (a ministry of OM Lifehope), and continues to thrive on its own. Twenty children attend this weekly club.
The team is also involved in volunteering in the 11 local schools. They have taught religious education classes, held assemblies and brought in a Christian band to help soften the hearts of the students towards Christ.
“Songs of Praise” is another ministry that the team is involved in. Formatted after the BBC production of the same name; it is a monthly opportunity to reach out to the older community through hymns and a sermon
Jonathan Greaves, the pastor of the church, has a big vision to reach the whole town. The Monmouth team is helping Jonathan with this vision by conducting community surveys, handing out tracts and giving away copies of the Jesus film.
Jonathan is a gifted teacher and evangelist trained by Open Air Campaigners. Anyone joining this team will get excellent coaching and training in youth ministry and evangelism. The town has a vibrant cultural life and it is possible to create opportunities to bring a Christian witness to some of these events.
